Billionaire Elon Musk poured more than $20 million into a mysterious super PAC at the end of the 2024 campaign, part of more than $250 million he spent overall to boost President-elect Donald Trump, new campaign finance reports show. Musk financed RBG PAC, according to the group's report filed Thursday night with the Federal Election Commission. The super PAC, which did not disclose its donors before the election, launched ads contending that Trump did not support a federal abortion ban. All of the money the group pulled in — $20.5 million — came from a single donation from the “Elon Musk Revocable Trust” located in Austin, Texas. RBG PAC spent almost all of its funds on digital ads, mailers and text messages, according to the campaign finance report, which covered Oct. 17 through Nov. 25. The group's website states that Trump and the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg agree on the abortion issue, drawing criticism from Ginsburg's granddaughter Clara Spara, who told the New York Times that the message was "nothing short of appalling." Trump took credit for the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, a decision that came after three Trump-appointed justices voted with the majority to overturn the national right to an abortion. (One of those justices, Amy Coney Barrett, was appointed to replace Ginsburg weeks before the 2020 election, after Ginsburg died in mid-September.) As president, he supported a federal ban on abortion after 20 weeks. But during this campaign, Trump backed away from that position and instead declared he supported states' rights to decide abortion laws . Democrats still hit Trump hard on those past positions to argue that if elected, he and a Republican Congress would act to restrict abortion nationwide. The late ad blitz from RBG PAC only represents a fraction of Musk's total election spending this year: He also financed America PAC, a super PAC which reported spending $157 million supporting Trump in the presidential race. America PAC's latest campaign finance report showed Musk donated $238 million to the group throughout the election cycle, including $120 million in the final weeks of the race alone. Federal disclosures show America PAC spent heavily on canvassing, text message-based get-out-the-vote efforts, printing and postage (likely for direct mail) and digital advertising too. It also ran a controversial cash giveaway that gave out $1 million each day to someone who signed the group's conservative-leaning petition. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner sued Musk and America PAC in late October trying to halt the giveaway, but a judge in the state didn't agree to stop the program . The Justice Department also warned the PAC around the same time that the giveaway might be illegal, but it's taken no public action on it. America PAC’s campaign finance report lists each of those $1 million prizes as payments for a "spokesperson consultant." Musk also gave $3 million to the MAHA Alliance , a super PAC affiliated with Robert F. Kennedy's "Make America Healthy Again" push, in late October. It's possible that Musk donated more to pro-Trump efforts too, as political committees continue to file fundraising reports pegged to Thursday night's deadline. The Space X and Tesla founder is one of Trump's top donors this cycle , but he's also been among his most visible. He's been a regular presence at Mar-a-Lago and by Trump's side during the transition (to the consternation of some in Trump's orbit ). NoneCOPENHAGEN, Denmark--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec 8, 2024-- Genmab A/S (Nasdaq: GMAB): Genmab A/S (Nasdaq: GMAB) today announced results from the Phase 1b/2 EPCORE ® CLL-1 clinical trial evaluating epcoritamab (Abstract #883), a T-cell engaging bispecific antibody administered subcutaneously, demonstrated an overall response rate (ORR) of 61 percent and a complete response (CR) rate of 39 percent in difficult-to-treat adult patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) treated with epcoritamab monotherapy. These results, from the monotherapy expansion (EXP) cohort (n=23) of the trial, along with the first safety data from the optimization (OPT) cohort, were presented at the 66 th Annual Meeting and Exposition of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), during the ASH Annual Meeting Press Program. The data will be presented during an oral session on December 9, 2024. In the EXP cohort, the median time to response was two (2.0) months and the median time to CR was 5.6 months. Among all patients in the cohort, median progression-free survival (PFS) was 12.8 months and median overall survival (OS) was not reached (median follow-up was 22.8 months). An estimated 65 percent of patients were alive at 15 months. Among 12 responders evaluable for minimal residual disease (MRD) by next-generation sequencing in peripheral blood, nine patients (75 percent) had undetectable MRD. The most frequent non-hematologic treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) in the EXP cohort were cytokine release syndrome (CRS; 96 percent), diarrhea (48 percent), peripheral edema (48 percent), fatigue (43 percent), and injection-site reaction (43 percent). Cytopenias were common (anemia, 65 percent; thrombocytopenia, 65 percent; neutropenia, 48 percent); however, most patients had baseline anemia and thrombocytopenia, suggesting that these events were largely disease-related. Three cases of immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) were reported (one Grade 1; two Grade 2), and there was one clinical tumor lysis syndrome (CTLS) case (Grade 2). These cases did not lead to treatment discontinuation. Four fatal TEAEs occurred - two cases of pneumonia, one case of sepsis and one case of squamous cell carcinoma of the skin. The EXP cohort followed a 2-step step-up dose regimen, and CRS was manageable and primarily low grade (9 percent Grade 1, 70 percent Grade 2, 17 percent Grade 3). In the first data from the separate OPT cohort, which followed a 3-step step-up dose regimen, CRS severity was substantially reduced with only low-grade events (71 percent Grade 1, 12 percent Grade 2). In both cohorts, CRS events primarily occurred following the first full dose, and none led to treatment discontinuation. No ICANS or CTLS cases were reported in the OPT cohort. “These EPCORE CLL-1 data are encouraging, especially as the majority of patients were heavily pre-treated with at least four lines of therapy,” said Alexey Danilov, MD, PhD, Marianne and Gerhard Pinkus, Professor and Director of Early Clinical Therapeutics and Associate Director of the Toni Stephenson Lymphoma Center, Department of Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation, City of Hope. “Despite progress in treating chronic lymphocytic leukemia, there remains a tremendous need for additional therapeutic options for high-risk patients whose disease has progressed following standard chemoimmunotherapy and targeted therapies.” Additional data from the EXP cohort showed high response rates in patients with high-risk factors treated with epcoritamab, including TP53 aberrations, IGHV-unmutated disease and double-exposed disease – prognostic markers that are associated with disease progression and decreased survival. i,ii,iii In patients with TP53 aberrations (n=15), the ORR was 67 percent with a CR of 33 percent. Among patients with IGHV-unmutated disease (n=16), the ORR was 63 percent, and the CR was 44 percent. In double-refractory patients, the ORR was 53 percent, and the CR was 37 percent. All patients in the trial had prior chemoimmunotherapy, and most patients had previously received targeted therapies such as BTK and BCL2 inhibitors (double-exposed) and had high-risk disease characteristics. “Chronic lymphocytic leukemia is incurable, and patients often need a variety of treatments throughout their lifetime, especially if their disease has high-risk prognostic factors, has relapsed or has become refractory to the current standard-of-care, including targeted therapies,” said Dr. Judith Klimovsky, Executive Vice President & Chief Development Officer, Genmab. “These early data show the potential therapeutic applicability of epcoritamab in relapsed or refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and further reinforce the potential of epcoritamab as a core therapy for the treatment of B-cell malignancies.” Use of epcoritamab in CLL is not approved in the U.S. or in the EU or in any other territory. On International Anti-Corruption Day, let’s resolve to bring down the corruption rate Recently, Goa made headlines due to a scandal involving cash-for-government jobs, which even drew attention from Delhi. For the people who have been seeking government jobs, the cash-for-job episodes may not be new. The proportion of the scam that came to light is unimaginable. Besides the clamour for government jobs and people willing to pay any price to secure one, the other main element involved is corruption. The involvement of so many “agents” in the racket is not only a clear indicator of its magnitude but also shows that the tentacles have reached far and wide. At the height of the episodes, which threatened to explode politically, the arrested “agents” either didn’t spill any beans or the police may have suppressed their revelations. Could the agents give jobs without higher connections? They say the level of corruption in developing countries is high as the economy of these countries is showing an upward trend. In countries like India, there may or may not be full evidence, but from what is spoken about in political circles and corridors of power, the level of corruption is huge. Often fingers are pointed at higher-level politicians, but lower-level governance machinery, including democratically elected institutions at the grassroots, also lack corruption-free, clean administration. This seems to be worse in the case of central government organisations. Recently, CBI booked an income tax officer on charges of corruption. There are upright officers and other government employees. Many times these officers face the brunt for not “helping the system”. The past politicians who rose on the plank of fighting corruption are no longer in power. Ironically, the party that came to power on the same promise of fighting corruption now has the very people it had pointed fingers at in its fold. The opposition is also weak, and the apparatus formed to curb corruption has virtually been put to sleep. How many cases of corruption have been booked by the anti-corruption branch (ACB)? There are no ‘trap cases’. Hardly any cases are filed before the Goa Lokayukta. During Justice P K Misra’s term, the Lokayukta had found evidence of corruption in more than 20 cases. Was anyone punished? After investigation, the Lokayukta makes recommendations to the government for necessary action. But in more than a decade, negligible cases have been acted upon by the government. What does this mean? The state government seems to be shying away from taking corruption cases to the logical end. Corruption is a complex social, political, and economic phenomenon that affects all countries. It undermines democratic institutions and slows down socio-economic development. It goes against the much-repeated ‹Good Governance› and is corroding our systems. Young people are significantly affected by corruption. However, on the other side, they also have the potential to become powerful agents of change. If the society is built on integrity, selection for jobs will be on merit, and, consequently, more people will not move out of Goa for jobs, and so on and so forth. A mass movement is needed to fight corruption. Today is International Anti-Corruption Day. Let’s hope that the government will strengthen the anti-corruption agencies and come out with new mechanisms to fight graft. Otherwise, corruption will derail our efforts to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Goa by 2047.
