DLF Techpark 1 is home to global technology leaders like IBM, Lexmark and Concentrix. Around 15,000 people work in the IT park KOLKATA: In one of the largest commercial real estate deals in Kolkata in recent years, a consortium of two city-based firms inked an agreement to purchase a 15 lakh sq ft IT park in New Town from a Delhi-based real estate giant. The deal that includes purchase of assets and liabilities is pegged at Rs 638 crore. " RDB Primarc Techno Park has acquired DLF Techpark 1, one of the largest privately-owned tech parks in the city, from DLF Info City Developers . The acquisition includes the cost of the immoveable property and business undertakings like rental, CAM, fit-out, property management and other services being operated from DLF Techpark 1," said Primarc director Siddharth Pansari. DLF rental business vice-chairman and MD Sriram Khattar said the deal was reflective of the value embedded in the company's core assets created over the years with good quality tenant partners and asset management. RDB Primarc Techno Park is an affiliate of Primarc and RDB Group while DLF Info City Developers is a wholly-owned subsidiary of DLF Cyber City Developers , the rental arm of DLF. The green building that carries LEED Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council is one of the earliest IT projects in New Town and is a landmark in the satellite township. Situated next to Nazrul Tirtha, it is home to global technology leaders like IBM, Lexmark and Concentrix. Around 15,000 people work in the IT park that comprises multiple blocks. "We have been wanting to expand our commercial portfolio for a while and enter the IT space that is expected to see a good demand from global capability centres. This marque asset provided a good acquisition opportunity. We will benefit immensely from DLF's learnings, systems and processes," Pansari said. The group is also planning to develop greenfield projects, both in the IT space and in retail. "We will construct malls in Kolkata and Bhopal," he added. RDB group promoter Vinod Dugar felt the step would strengthen the commitment to support Bengal's economy through projects that prioritise sustainability and excellence. JLL was the sole transaction adviser to both parties. Fox & Mandal were the legal advisers to RDB & Primarc. Surekha Bihani, senior managing director of JLL India (east & emerging markets), said: "This is not only the largest concluded real estate transaction in Bengal's history but also one of the biggest acquisitions within the state by a Bengal-based company." Debanjan Mandal and Kunal Vajani, managing partners of Fox & Mandal, said: "This is a landmark transaction for West Bengal, and we are glad to have worked on this acquisition."

It’s hard to do a comprehensive Top 10 movie list when Winnipeg cineastes are once again at that frustrating annual juncture: We’re hearing about some of the buzziest films of the year — titles like , even the much-awarded feature from former Winnipegger Matthew Rankin — but still waiting on them to sneak into our town some time in 2025. Maybe we can’t be exhaustive. We can, however, be exhausted. This was a wearying, chaotic year out there in the real world, and a lot of those anxieties — about environmental devastation, artificial intelligence, civil strife, political polarization — seemed to have seeped onto the big screen. Here are some random observations on the movie year that was — the best, the worst and the most nervous. With a bang? With a whimper? How about with a riff on a Neil Young song? From the multiplex to the arthouse, there were a lot of catastrophic cinematic scenarios this year. Taking a deeply angry but deadpan funny approach to global cataclysm, is from the made-in-Manitoba directorial team of Guy Maddin, Galen Johnson and Evan Johnson. This unclassifiable horror/comedy/soap centres on the leaders of the G7 countries, who can be seen wandering ineffectually in a forest as the world descends into some unspecified disaster. , from Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude, is also furiously hilarious (or maybe hilariously furious) as it deals with the ruthlessness of multinational capitalism, the breakdown of liberal democracy and the toxicity of social media. A road-trip flick that drives in circles, it evokes a state of numbness so entrenched that even the apocalypse will feel — as the title suggests — slightly anti-climactic. As Marvel’s proliferating timelines and intricately interconnected multiverses have some fans wondering whether we’ve reached peak Marvel Cinematic Universe, seems to offer a very meta answer. The boffo blockbuster is packed with stunt cameos and smirky in-jokes about how superhero movies are just cynical corporate cash-grabs constructed out of infinitely recycled Intellectual Property. Let’s hope admitting you have a problem is the first step to solving it. Meanwhile, over at DC, proved that the only thing worse than a villain origin story is a villain origin story sequel — especially when it involves Joaquin Phoenix singing Jacques Brel. In June, a London cinema cancelled the premiere of a film written by ChatGPT after complaints from patrons. The film was titled — with what one assumes is machine-learning humour — Meanwhile, over in movies still being scripted by actual people, some of the robots were really lovely. In the warm, beautiful cartoon , Roz (voiced by Lupita Nyong’o), an AI-powered service bot that’s been stranded in the wilderness, ends up overriding her programming to care for an orphaned gosling. And in Pablo Berger’s wordless and wonderful all-ages animated feature, a lonely dog in ‘80s New York buys a mail-order robot and ends up finding a pal. Speaking of AI, here’s what Gemini, Google’s generative AI Chatbot, says about Coralie Fargeat’s highly stylized body-horror flick “The film is about a woman who has reached the age of 50, which some say is a feminist twist.” Good to know that just being a woman over 50 is now a revolutionary political act. But Demi Moore takes it farther than that, bringing ferocious physicality and fierce self-loathing to a speculative sci-fi premise that sees her facing off with a younger, fresher alternative self (played by Margaret Qualley). When it comes to questions of faith and doubt, with its handsome production values, ambitious ideas and impeccable performances (from Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow and more), is the highbrow take. a horror movie with an uncomfortable premise — two young missionaries (Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East) are caught in a trap set by a very sinister Hugh Grant — goes low. Prepare for post-screening theological discussio; both films get in some good points. In an unapologetically mopey comic drama from writer-director-star Joanna Arnow, the main character’s penchant for full-frontal nudity and hilariously awkward, arbitrary SM encounters feels deliberately anti-erotic. Meanwhile in — from our leading auteur of desire, Luca Guadagnino — a three-way kissing scene involving Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor might be the sexiest thing on screen this year. And everyone keeps their clothes on. Mike Faist (from left) Zendaya and Josh O’Connor are shown in a scene from “Challengers.” (Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures) Neither Joshua Oppenheimer’s nor Francis Ford Coppola’s works. But Oppenheimer’s weird, wistful musical set at the end of the world reminds you that failure can be good thing — idiosyncratic, original, vulnerable and human. , on the other hand, feels like a failure-failure. Coppola’s self-funded, long-gestating passion project — about a brilliant innovator (Adam Driver) living in a fusion of futuristic New York and ancient Rome — is so bloated and self-indulgent, so visually and ideologically incoherent, it almost argues against itself. This might be an ode to the untrammelled power of the individual creative genius, but one almost wishes some studio bean-counter was telling Coppola to just stop, already. arts@freepress.mb.ca Studying at the University of Winnipeg and later Toronto’s York University, Alison Gillmor planned to become an art historian. With the threat to obstruct birth by means of abortion and artificial contraceptives, children fear coming out into the world alone. * * * From the beginning God intended that there be a place for parental love, care, and affection beginning with infancy when an individual is helpless, a place where he finds warmth and security, where he can make mistakes, where he can grow, where he can be accepted. In short, God intended a family. * * * After Christmas day, we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family — that of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. Although Son of God, Jesus became a human child; he grew up in a family. For this, God loved and sanctified the human family. Thus, the saying, “Father And Mother I Love You (FAMILY).” * * * The family, as the basic unit of society, ought to be the origin of change in society. If you cannot find the Christian values of honesty, justice, kindness, charity there, you cannot expect to find these outside. For the family is a miniature model of society. Despite their human frailties, parents should constantly strive to show good example. Due to economic hardship, families are vulnerable to family break-ups and infidelities with the husband, for instance, working abroad or the mother employed as domestic helper in other countries. Among affluent families, parental presence and supervision are sorely lacking. So absorbed in business and socials, parents have little time for their children. Somebody remarked, “Many homes nowadays have three shifts. Father is on the night shift, mother is on the day shift, and the children shift for themselves.” * * * Ask yourselves: Are you aware that raising good Christian children is your primary task and vocation or, God’s plan for you? Do you have quality time for your children and family bonding? In one family recollection I facilitated, a young participant said in the group sharing, “The happiest moment in our family is when we are together and happy.” The deepest joy that parents experience is the delicate task of bringing up their children and seeing them walk the right path. * * * The Lighter Side. After the Christmas holidays, a man tells his friend: “First my assets were frozen, then liquidated, and now they have evaporated.” * * * Wife: “Our first years were wonderful — he promised me the moon, the sun, the stars. Now, every day, I see stars!” (The husband is a wife beater!) * * * Somebody said: “Do you know the punishment for bigamy (two wives)?” Friend: “Yes. You will not only have two masters but two mothers-in-law!” (biyanan). And more expensive! * * * Appeal. Some seminarians cannot continue their schooling due to financial difficulty. This can happen if we do not support our seminarians. Please chip in an amount or sponsor a seminarian’s schooling good for one school year. For inquiry, e-mail: [email protected] . Thank you.

The Government has decided to allocate space for a memorial for former Prime Minister late Dr Manmohan Singh , the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said on Friday. According to the MHA, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, immediately after the Cabinet meeting, communicated to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge that the Government will allocate space for the memorial. “Today morning, Government received a request to allocate space for a memorial for former Prime Minister Late Dr Manmohan Singh, from the Congress Party President,” the MHA statement read. “Immediately after the Cabinet meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah communicated to Congress President Kharge and the family of Late Dr Manmohan Singh that the Government will allocate space for the memorial. In the meanwhile cremation and other formalities can happen because a trust has to be formed and space has to be allocated to it,” it added. Earlier in the day, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone and requested to have the funeral of Dr Manmohan Singh at a place where his memorial can be built, according to a post by the Indian National Congress on X. “I am writing this in the context of the sad demise of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India. Apropos our telephonic conversation this morning, wherein I requested to hold Dr Manmohan Singh’s last rites, which will take place tomorrow i.e. 28th December 2024, at his final resting place that would be a sacrosanct venue for the memorial of the great son of India. This is in keeping with such tradition of having memorials of statesmen and former Prime Ministers at the very place of their funerals,” Mr. Kharge wrote in his letter. The Congress President emphasized that Dr Manmohan Singh holds a highly revered place in the psyche of the country and the people of this nation. “While his contributions and achievements are phenomenal, I would like to dwell here on some of his very significant accomplishments. His erudition on economic and fiscal matters comes from his vast experience as Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India and various other capacities in several organizations,” Mr. Kharge said. “The respect and regard that the world leaders had for Dr Manmohan Singh bears testimony to this fact. His wise counsel, leadership and contribution in mitigating the global economic financial crisis is well acknowledged. As I recall, President Obama during his tenure as President of the US mentioned Dr. Singh and remarked that “Whenever the Indian Prime Minister speaks, the whole world listens to him,” he added. Mr. Kharge recalled Dr Singh’s role as Finance Minister during a grave economic crisis in India, saying “It was Manmohan Singh as Finance Minister, who took India out of the crisis and also led the country towards economic prosperity and stability. The nation today reaps the benefits of the robust economic foundations he built.” Mr. Kharge further said that a memorial would be a fitting tribute to a leader who rose from humble beginnings to become a statesman of immense stature. “In view of the foregoing, I hope and trust that befitting the stature of Dr Manmohan Singh, the above request to have the funeral of Dr Manmohan Singh at a place where his memorial can be built will be acceded to,” Kharge concluded. The last rites of Dr Manmohan Singh are to be performed at Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi on Saturday afternoon. “Dr Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister passed away at 9.51 PM on December 26, 2024 at AllMS Hospital, New Delhi. It has been decided by the Government that State funeral will be accorded to Dr Manmohan Singh. The funeral will take place at 11:45 AM on December 28, 2024 at Nigambodh Ghat, New Delhi. The Ministry of Defence is requested to make arrangements for State funeral will full military honours,” the MHA stated. Dr Manmohan Singh passed away at AIIMS, Delhi, on Thursday at the age of 92 due to age-related medical conditions. He had a sudden loss of consciousness at home after which he was rushed to the hospital. Dr Singh’s political career spanned several decades, with notable positions including Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, during which he spearheaded economic reforms that transformed India’s economy. He served as the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014, succeeding Atal Bihari Vajpayee. His tenure is particularly remembered for his steady leadership during economic crises and his contributions to modernizing India’s economy. After his second term, Dr Singh retired from public life, having led India through a period of unprecedented growth and international recognition. He was succeeded by Narendra Modi in 2014 after the Congress-led UPA lost the general elections. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Charlotte Hornets will be without point guard LaMelo Ball for at least two weeks because of a strained left calf. Ball felt discomfort in his calf after Wednesday night’s loss to the Miami Heat and did not play against the New York Knicks on Friday. The team said he will be reevaluated on Dec. 11, which is two weeks from the date of the original injury. Ball has been hot for the Hornets, averaging 40.3 points in his last four games. He is averaging a career-best 31.1 points and 4.7 3-pointers per game for the season, which ranks second in the NBA. He also is averaging 5.4 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 18 starts. Ball has had a history of injury problems, mostly to his ankles, since coming to the league as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. The only Hornets player to ever receive a max contract extension, Ball has played in just 202 games with 182 starts in five seasons. The team also said guard Tre Mann’s lower back soreness has been diagnosed as a disk irritation. His absence from the lineup began on Nov. 23 against Milwaukee. He will continue his rehabilitation and be reevaluated in two weeks. “They are competitors and they want to be out there on the court to compete and hoop, but they also want to be out there for their teammates,” Hornets coach Charles Lee said prior to Saturday night's game against the Atlanta Hawks. "I just walked past ’Melo as I was coming in here to do media, and he’s like, ‘I’m going to take care of everything I need to do on this return to play program and I’m going to attack it with the right mindset.’ I have all the confidence in the world in our performance staff and in those guys.” AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBAS&P/TSX composite up more than 150 points, U.S. stock markets mixed

Brock Purdy participated in the start of Thursday's practice with the 49ers but the San Francisco starting quarterback was not on the field for the majority of the workout, casting doubt over his availability to play Sunday at Green Bay. Purdy is dealing with a right shoulder injury and the 49ers are also potentially without left tackle Trent Williams and Nick Bosa due to injuries. Bosa was listed as out of Thursday's practice with an oblique injury. Williams also didn't suit up Thursday. He played through an ankle injury last week after being listed as questionable. Purdy's typical Thursday post-practice media session was scrapped until Friday as the 49ers did not make any quarterback available. Kyle Allen would step in for Purdy as the starter if he can't play against the Packers. Run game coordinator Chris Foerster said the 49ers aren't where they want to be at 5-5 because they haven't won close games, not because of injuries. "Seven games left is like an eternity," Foerster said. "So much can happen. Do the math. What was our record last year? It was 12-5. I was on a 13-win team that was nowhere near as good as the team last year." With or without Purdy, Foerster said the challenge for the 49ers is not to give up the ball to a defense that has 19 takeaways. The 49ers have 13 giveaways this season. --Field Level Media
